about

‘Lynch’ is a manifesto about the Black experience in America. Based on the myth of Willie Lynch’s letter and the mindset it represents in our American societal constructs, which aim to always keep black people enslaved both mentally, physically and emotionally through things such as the 13th amendment, internalized self hate, redlining and more.

- Ajani Jones.

lyrics

today I see a bunch a people talking about the ways
that black and white could do better and then we coin the phrase
an ally
I dig it cuz we need it in fact
it takes me back to my ancestors with the whips on they back
it's still a problem and nixon he made sure it was that
but it ain’t start with him it comes from way further in fact
this bigot his name willie
last name lynch
he gave a speech to slaveowners talking bout a switch
and a chain for the mind it's a grind and it's full proof
told em all they had to do was colorize to pull through
put blacks in the shade that be lighter than the rest
put the darkies in the field
that should make them feel less
take the women from the men and make sure that they see it
take their language, the culture, and never let them read
its to believe
that the hope is lost he called for this meeting to decree that this is only way to stop freedom
emasculate the man take him way from his kids
teach the little boys that pain is the thing they get
if they stand up or fight back
heroes they ain’t like that
so everytime they doubled down whenever moors strike back
he coined the phrase lynching
still happens today
they found 2 black men hanging somewhere around the way
its still relevant the evidence is prevalent and clear
and the regiment was control for like 300 years
you still here
well lets continue
notice how the aim was turn your own black brother against you
and make women resentful
potential
wasted on a mind fuck
these operations passed down and still serve to blind us
who put these people in office not to remind us
we outnumbered
figure that therapy could be kinder
but its not
its the cause and concern its a pinch
i get worried cuz i know we still living in a lynching

to be clear try to recognize your actions as a black man
walking down the street you live impoverished with rats and the redline divides us the blocks turned lighter
when gentrified
they send us way think that they can buy us
meanwhile they kill us by wendys
and set fires in the protests thats peaceful
breanna taylor needs you
but still its kill us all till the job is done forreal
they put our fathers in jail
they let this happen to till
im talking emmit
you admit it you they was wilding forever
imagine walking through the cold with no jacket or sweater with chains tight around your ankles at your your skin
you look for strength from every place to keep on moving an inch
the sickness rises
politcally they building out the prisons
now its overcrowded with people thats wrongly convicted
with no pension to save
just like 4 feet of space and some bars that remind you just what was in place
its in the 13th amendment they made it sound proper
but really its a front to get slavery back and poppin
you know i never spew this rhetoric without facts
just go read the letter translate to this time scrap
and still we rise through the rain through cops that’s still racist
sometime it make me wonder if we live in a matrix
your thoughts about the self hate the thoughts of rejection
we come together and i promise thats the scariest weapon
